Storm Mountain

Storm Mountain is located up Big Cottonwood Canyon. There are 2 picnic sites by the waterfall that are great. There are volleball courts, badminton courts and an amphitheatre. One visitor wrote "The picnic site was well maintained and clean, as were the restrooms. Located next to the creek, the site provided a great setting for a family picnic. There were no mosquitoes and the temperature was just right." Be aware there is a vertical rock outcropping that is definitely not for beginning climbers and definitely not for children. Only professional climbers should attempt it. Also, you will need to remind children that wading is prohibited as it is a drinking water supply. No dogs allowed. If you can abide by the restrictions, you'll have a beautiful picnic experience.

Donut Falls

Donut Falls is located up Big Cottonwood Canyon. I couldn't find any mention of a picnic spot here, but have it on good authority that it's a fun place to bring a picnic and then take a beautiful hike to the falls. As with all outdoor canyon activities, it is smart to bring your own water and a cell phone. Quoting an online site "The trail starts to the south of the parking lot by the restrooms. The trail has a slight elevation gain but is great for hikers of all ages. The trail winds through woods and meadows and offers beautiful views of the surrounding terrain and stream. Once close to the falls the trail leads you next to the stream and you can hear cascading water in the distance. At this point you will experience a slight drop-off that the kids may need help with. Once you reach the falls you can cross a very small log bridge to the east side of the stream to get a great view of the falls and the donut which the falls are named after. We do not advise climbing up the rock to view the "donut hold" as this rock is very slippery. If you do so, do it at your own risk. People from 1-2 years of age to the elderly were seen having a great time on the hike. Remember, this trail is very popular, so be prepared for the crowds.

Canyon Glen Park

Canyon Glen Park is located about 3 miles up Provo Canyon. It is connected to the Provo River Trail. Bring a picnic, bike or just explore!

Vivian Park

Vivian Park is located approximately 5.8 miles up Provo Canyon and is just one of the parks on the Provo River Trail. Picnic, enjoy the sunshine, fish in the Provo River, or enjoy a myriad of other interests including the Heber Creeper steam engine ride. There are pavilions, barbeques, a fishing pond, playgrounds, volleyball areas and shade.

Too Many Great Spots!

My assignment for RS midweek meeting/homemaking/or whatever it is called now was to research great places to visit/picnic this summer. The more places I discovered, the more unlikely it was to fit into a nice 1-page handout. Please give me feedback and pictures of the places you picnic and I'll edit and include them!
